IB Evening and Other Key Dates

Monday, Feb. 13th is McNally's annual IB Information Night at 7:00 in the Library.  Students and parents who are considering an academic program are encouraged to come learn why McNally is considered a model for IB schools across the province.  Presentations include:

  • An understanding of the IB program to help you make an informed choice
  • University entrance benefits
  • Why our dynamic and varied CAS (Creativity, Action and Service) program makes IB an exciting experience
  • An overview of McNally's IB courses including
    • Fine and Performing Arts at the IB level including Visual Arts, Music and Dance
    • McNally's unique Computer Science IB progam
    • Math and Math Studies
    • Experimental Sciences including Biology, Physics and Chemistry all at the IB level
    • History and Engish
    • Theory of Knowledge
    • Rich offerings in Second Languages including Spanish, French and Mandarin at both beginner and advanced levels
 
McNally Open House - Wednesday Mar. 14

McNally's Open House is Wednesday, Mar. 14.  Come see why you belong in Tiger Territory! The evening starts at 6:00pm and runs until 8:30.   Parents and students may come for the whole evening or pop in at any time for a short visit.  There will be a number of presentations repeated throughout the evening plus a large number of displays that you can visit at your convenience.  Many of our current students and teachers will be on hand to help out and to answer your questions about life at McNally High School.

Highlights of the Open House will include:

  • You can fill your belly with samples from our wonderful foods program
  • Watch our National Silver Medalists practice for the 2-D Animation competition coming up at Skills Alberta
  • See performances and displays from our music, dance, art and drama classes
  • Pop in to the gym to watch our Dragon Team, Basketball, Cheer and Chinese Dance teams perform
  • Grab a remote control and see if you can score a goal with one of our teams' Competive Robots
  • Say Hola as you learn about our French, Spanish and Mandarin second language programs.
  • Learn why McNally's technology and Computer Science programs lead the way in the city.  You might even get a chance to build your own computer game or program and download your very own Smart Phone App.
  • Find out about McNally's IB program if you missed our IB Night on Feb. 13th
  • Learn about our core courses to help you make the right choice about your future schedule

In the meantime, to learn more about McNally's courses offerings, please look at the Future Students menu on the left.  There you will find links two 2 key documents.  The Program Guide is a simple, to-the-point summary of what we offer at McNally.  The Course Descriptions booklet is a complete description of all our courses including entrance requirements and pre-requisites.

 
McNally Writers Make the Journal

Three McNally students were recently published in the Edmonton Journal as Cappies reviewers.  Julie Pepin, Morgan Tsetta and Mackenzie Martin showed off their writing skills as they reviewed Pride and Prejudice. Their reviews were in the Edmonton Journal on December 20th.  Click here to read Julie's feature article.

Special Olympic Pride

Congratulations to Meghan Sander for being selected “Female Athlete of the Year” in Special Olympics. See www.specialolympicsedmonton.ca for more info.  She is also an Athlete Ambassador for the National Winter games that are taking place in St. Albert from Feb 28 – March 3, 2012.  Well done Megan.

Congratulations to Keegan and Eliot for a tremendous result at the National Skills Canada Championships in Quebec City.  Keegan and Eliot were awarded the Silver Medal for their animation on the theme Clowning Around.  Well done, McNally is proud of you! 

 
 

Congratulations to Keegan and Eliot for winning the Gold Medal and Daniel Fagnan for winning Silver at the Provinical Skills Competition! 

As champions of the 2D Animation category, Keegan and Eliot are off to Quebec in June to compete for the Canadian Championship and a shot at representing Canada at the World Championships.   Check back soon to see clips from their winning animation! 

Daniel earned a Silver Medal in Web Design for a Golf Course website.  A Silver Medal is an amazing feat for a grade 10 student.  Congratulations Daniel!

Carlo also had a great competition in the Culinary Arts category and had local restauranteurs whispering his name.  What an amazing showing by all four.  Congratulations gentlemen!
